Pretty much all the cruise ships that run out of Vancouver have now repositioned south for the winter and the tour buses are near empty (and a little damp!) until spring. There was an odd quiet over the city today with pretty much just Vancouverite’s present.

Disappearing Further into the Background on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
Vancouver’s Iconic Marine Building, once the tallest building on the planet outside of the USA and long the jewel in Vancouver’s Skyline is about to suffer a further indignity.

As recently as 1989, it still figured prominently on the Vancouver Skyline but, now has been fully hidden from the harbour by development in front of it. Now, the space formerly occupied by the University Club next door is to be replaced by a highrise which will block the view of the western side of the building, not to mention encroach on the most excellent Guiness Building, one of the modernist jewels of Vancouver.

Fortunately, it’s unlikely that Burrard, Cordova or Hastings Streets are going to be replaced by high rise developments anytime soon so, three sides of the Marine Building will remain visible in at least the immediate vicinity!

A night at the cinema on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
Was hired to shoot an event at the Rio Theatre with the OM-D this evening. Typical event work, on camera flash grip and grin type stuff but, with a really fun crowd.

The OM-D handles like a miata with a grand piano in the passenger seat when you’ve got an FL-50 and reflector on top of it, the grip is a must have item (which I’ll attend to asap).

The anti shake though, damn, that works. This shot of the empty theatre before the event kicked off is sparkling. 0.4 seconds handheld is pretty impressive, even at 12mm (24mm ff equivalent).

Grandma’s starting to find her age a bit gaudy so, from this year forward, it shall be expressed as a square root. Sadly, we weren’t able to see her on her birthday this year but, were able to have dinner tonight, better late than never!

Happy Belated 9.38083151965 squared and a bit Birthday Grandma!

From the inaugural edition of the Bob’s Lounge Salon Series, which took place Friday Night at the BopHopShop, Max Murphy and David Mackintosh belt out their classic ‘Impregnator’. Fun was had, more pictures to follow as I’ve got time to process them.

It was an event worthy of my ever-dwindling supply of Fuji Neopan 1600.

Singin’ a Protest Song about Protestin’ Stuff on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
At a rally of some sort. I asked a couple of the dozen or so people there what it was for and got noncommittal shrugs.

I sometimes suspect that most of the people at most of the rallys on the Art Gallery’s lawn, er, expanse of wood-chips, aren’t quite sure why they’re there sometimes.
