In Coal Harbour Green this morning. Haven’t had much chance to get any shots myself this week, what with a convalescing Emperor and all. He finally seemed fit enough for a bit of a stroll this morning so, we went downstairs to the park for a bit. Trajan tuckered out quickly but, really enjoyed the fresh air. I think he’s been going as stir crazy as me stuck in the house all week!
Hope this lovely, crisp weather holds until the weekend so I can get out and enjoy it.

Cake? At Bedtime? On a Monday? Trajan was understandably suspicious but, if ever there was a Monday for cake at bedtime, this was it. Not only did he get sprung from Children’s Hospital yesterday to continue his recovery from the flu at home but, had things played out the way they were expected to a couple years ago, today shoulda, woulda, coulda been his second birthday!
Of course, he did the math in utero and figured out that if he lounged around in Mommy until he was expected in January, he ran the risk of getting combined birthday/christmas presents, he’d miss out on a Halloween and a Christmas and, more importantly, we’d have to wait another 13 weeks to meet him. I’m not entirely certain that I agree with his logic here but, I’m not entirely certain that I could’ve waited that extra 13 weeks myself.
Oh, and GET YOUR FLU SHOTS!

From his first visit to the new JJ Bean Café in the historic Marine Building last Sunday. Trajan’s wondering why we’re not at the perfectly good JJ Bean on Alberni Street. I explained the how not only was the Marine Building just as close to home as his regular coffee joint on Alberni Street but, his Great Grandfather worked upstairs for years. He was unimpressed but, his mood improved once he had finished his Americano. As it always does.
In more recent news, he’s out of Intensive Care this afternoon and in a nice, private room with a lovely view of the mountains just like he’s got at home. Definitely not ready to come home quite yet but getting back to his cantankerous self. If I were a Dacian, I’d be getting my affairs in order. The Emperor should be back on the campaign trail sometime next week.

We generally do but, Dad procrastinated this year like an idiot and, of course, the Emperor caught it.
Scary flu this year, he was a little lethargic but without a fever at 5:15 yesterday, fell over and had a seizure at 5:30 and in an ambulance with three teams of paramedics (regular, Advanced Life Support and the truly incredible Infant Transport Team) to Children’s hospital before 6:00 PM. Influenza A, a strain fully covered by this year’s flu shot.
The fever has abated now, he’s recovering nicely in the ICU today and will be under observation for a couple more days.
His Dad, on the other hand, resolves to straighten out his priorities prior to the next flu season.
