Video Movie Palace on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
The long abandoned ‘Movie Theatre’ in Birch Bay, Washington. Pretty sure I saw the Goonies here with my cousin Scott the year it came out. If memory serves, there was an RV park out back and they showed movies on VHS with an old, tricolor video projector.

As far as I know, it’s been sitting vacant since the late 80’s, although it might’ve had an incarnation as something or other since. Given most of the beachfront in Birch Bay has been redeveloped, it’s a pretty noteable holdout.

Breakfast in America on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
Trajan looks at his first American Restaurant meal in disbelief thinking ‘Are you sure you ordered from the kids menu Dad?’ That didn’t stop him from completely inhaling his Blueberry Pancakes though, along with a healthy portion of Dad’s hashbrowns and rye toast.

At Big Al’s in Blaine, Washington. It’s located in the former Denny’s right across the line. Used to be the first thing you’d see coming out of the Peace Arch with it’s Googie style (not sure if it’s an actual Googie or not, google’s not helping tonight!) architecture it announced quite loudly that you had arrived in the USA.

Denny’s closed the location some years ago, thankfully because Big Al’s has the old school diner thing done to rights. Coffee’s always fresh and my omelette was exemplary. Trajan’s pancake was done up proper with mouse ears, as all kids pancakes should be!

Showing the kid around on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
Took Trajan to Birch Bay, Washington yesterday to play on the beach I played on every summer as a kid. He had no time to stand around for photos, far too much to do. He didn’t build the sandcastle in this picture but, he sure took great joy in destroying it!

Sadly the tide was all the way in so we didn’t get to run around on the vast tidal flats Birch Bay is famous for but, he did walk out until the water was up to his waist: about 200 feet!

The Only Seafoods on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
Reported to be reopening in all it’s former glory sometime soon, the sign has been replaced at the Only for some time but, not much appearance of activity inside. Really hoping it does open as it was, have had a hankering for some quality Only Chowder for some years now and it’s just not going away!

Getting 6 toddlers to sit nicely in a row for a photo is definitely not a task for the weak.

Marxist Propaganda on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
One of the hidden features of the Horizon 202 is how, reportedly at the direction of Brezhnev himself in an effort to placate Erich Honecker for not returning Danzig to East German control, it was designed explicitly to make any car photographed in profile look remarkably like a variation of an East German Trabant.

Yay, Science! x6 on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
If you haven’t been following along there’s no way that you’d guess that none of the 6 kids you see here weighed over 2lbs at birth.

Had our ‘now we can call it annual because we’ve done it two years in a row’ NICU reunion at Granville Island yesterday. All the kids are doing great. Of course, with all 6 kids being fully mobile now, it was a little more chaotic than last year’s picnic but, still lots of fun.

Nicholas couldn’t make it out this year but, a couple of Trajan’s other mates from the beep-a-torium were able to make it out yesterday. From left to right: Ella, Sam, Oliver, Ben, Nyana and, of course, Trajan.

Last year’s group shot:

“Give me money” on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
This gentleman slipped into frame just as I was pressing the shutter and started demanding that I pay him because of how awesome a picture it will be. I told him to screw off because he just wrecked the shot I had set up.

Perhaps I was hasty in my judgement.

Summer, I’m a Fan! on Flickr.

Via Flickr:
Trajan had a hoot today. Rode the bike all the way over to Kitsilano this morning to weigh in on the latest Photokina rumours at Café Zen, a big nap then a couple hours at the water park in Harbour Green, hot dogs for dinner (a very occasional treat), more fresh BC apricots than you can shake a stick at and a great romp around the playground this evening. Poor guy almost fell asleep in the bath.

I call that a successful day.
